Smokefree United
Smokefree United
05 October to 20 December 2009
This new campaign is targeted at football loving male smokers. The campaign is running on radio, press, ambient, online and is supported by key partnerships with talkSPORT, the Premier League and a selection of football clubs in the North West.
What the campaign is about
Smokefree United is a virtual club of quitters - supported by John Barnes, Gianfranco Zola, Ian Wright and the Premier League - that provides coaching and support to help football fans and players to stop smoking.
Quitters signing up to the Smokefree United website will receive regular weekly contact over a four week period via supportive emails and texts, entry into competitions to win money-can’t-buy prizes, and the chance to send the club they support to the top of the Smokefree League. There are also online tools available to show smokers the effect smoking has on their wallet and their health.
The campaign is targeted at a hard to reach audience of male, routine and manual workers who have traditionally been resistant to government messaging.
Visit www.nhs.uk/smokefreeunited for more information.
There are resources available for local Stop Smoking Services to download if they would like to work with their local football clubs to extend Smokefree United.
